The 17th annual New Venture Competition, sporting nearly $100,000 in cash and in prizes, will conclude virtually. Following a competitive 85 concept submissions, 54 semi-finalists competed on May 14th for 1st and 2nd place in each of 5 tracks. Those 10 survivors will now compete for the Grand Prize in a 3-minute fast-pitch, facing a panel of distinguished judges from Orange County’s startup ecosystem. The New Venture Competition, hosted by the Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business, is a 7-month long entrepreneurship program dedicated to cultivating the entrepreneurial mindset and launching student startups in the Orange County area.

Teams:

  • Circular: A service that picks up food waste, composts it using worms, and uses that compost to fertilize a vertical farm growing organic produce, which is distributed back to partner restaurants.

  • Hydroflow: A smart water bottle cap that tracks water intake and monitors hydration levels.

  • HydroVasc: A platform injectable hydrogel that has the capability to regenerate various damaged tissue and organs.

  • MD Libero: A dual-sided marketplace focused on redefining price transparency in healthcare for patients, while also providing physicians with a CRM system to reduce overall costs.

  • MONI: An NFC activated pet tag with a community based app to monitor pet health and safety.

  • MoodCloud: An app that combines artificial intelligence with the world of lifestyle and health management for users to express themselves and view exactly how what they do on a day-to-day basis has a long-term impact on their health.

  • REMSYS: A resume management system designed for college students to alleviate the hassle of managing multiple resumes when applying to multiple jobs.

  • Shaka: A culture-building application that helps companies keep their employees engaged,

  • StyloSonic: A miniaturized handpiece that uses ultrasound/photoacoustic imaging to provide key periodontal metrics and assists dentists and periodontists to accurately diagnose gingivitis in the early stage and reduce the rate of advanced periodontitis.

  • Tooke Project: An environmentally conscious means of producing fabric that contributes to climate action and the creation of jobs for widows who are financially marginalized.
