Calling all CA-40 Middle and High Schoolers: The Congressional App Challenge is back!

Congressional App ChallengeEach year, the U.S. House of Representatives hosts the Congressional App Challenge.

This is an annual coding competition designed to encourage student participation in computer science and coding and an opportunity for students to compete against their peers by creating an application (also known as an “app”) for desktop/PC, web, tablet, mobile, raspberry Pi or other devices. Previous Congressional App Challenge winners’ apps are displayed on the Congressional App Challenge page.

The winner from Representative Young Kim's California Congressional District 40, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on CongressionalAppChallenge.us.

The Congressional App Challenge is open to all middle and high school students in CA-40.

The following is a summary of the of the Congressional App Challenge rules:

  • Students can use any programming language (example: C, C++, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, “block code,” etc.).
  • Students can use any platform (PC, web, tablet, robot, mobile, etc.).
  • There are no limits on application themes or topics.
  • Students may register as individuals or as teams of up to four. No more than four students are allowed to form a team.
  • Students may compete in the district they reside in or the district they attend school in.
  • If competing as a team, at least half of the teammates must be eligible to compete in the district in which they are participating.
