Congressional Startup Day with Representative Young Kim

Congresswoman Young Kim (CA-39) celebrated Congressional Startup Day with the OC Startup Council.

Congressional Startup Day is national, bipartisan celebration of entrepreneurship held all across the country each August.  It's designed to help our elected representatives connect better with the early stage ventures in their home districts. OC Startup Council Rep Kim Congressional Startup Day Call

Here in Orange County, the OC Startup Council was pleased to host Representative Kim in a CEO Roundtable call that included local startup founders, investors, and advisors.

The meeting was a valuable opportunity for OC technology startup ecosystem leaders to share their views with the Congresswoman, and hear her insights into the legislative, policy, and regulatory process.

With OCSC Member and Sponsor Q&A moderated by OCSC CEO Scott Fox, the private briefing featured updates from Representative Kim on topics affecting our local innovation ecosystem including:

  • tax and regulatory changes for startups and their investors
  • patent office staffing and filing improvements
  • crowdfunding and SEC support for startup capital raising
  • immigration and visas for tech workers
  • R&D tax credits and policies
  • national competitiveness and security issues
  • and more.

Congresswoman Kim was clearly supportive of Orange County startups as engines of innovation and job growth.  Her message of “The government’s job is to get out of your way” was appreciated by the entrepreneurial attendees.

The OC Startup Council appreciates the opportunity to represent OC's business needs to Washington policy makers.

Thanks to Congresswoman Kim and her team for participating in Congressional Startup Day with the OC Startup Council!

We look forward to future events together!
