Coronavirus - Here's Why You Need to Isolate NOW (Video + Article)

The world looks scary right now – and all projections say it’s only going to get worse...

Worst case scenarios can best be prevented by CHANGES to our daily behavior.  Please reduce your F2F contact as much as possible to help improve everyone's chances of staying healthy.

Two Explanations of the Danger of Exponential Virus Exposure

In case you haven't gotten enough yet (or are not yet convinced you need to STAY HOME), here are two of the best resources we've seen so far:

VIDEO:  How Staying In Saves Lives from COVID-19

This 5 minute video features a board-certified emergency room physician from Austin, Texas.  She runs through the math for how dangerous growth of the COVID-19 contagion is - and why removing yourself from human contact is the right thing to do.

TLDR Video Summary?

You can see it in the photo sub-title above:

If people don't self-isolate ASAP (and continue to do so) only .02% of sick Coronavirus patients will be able to get the ventilator equipment that they need to save their lives.

That means that US hospitals may only have enough life-saving equipment to save 1 out of 5000 infected people!  Those are not odds you want to risk.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET SICK - OR INFECT OTHERS AROUND YOU - EVEN UNKNOWINGLY.

[Surprise OC connection?:  That doctor is the sister of Representative Katie Porter, our local US Congresswoman for the 45th District.]

RESOURCE ARTICLE:  Coronavirus: The Hammer and the Dance:  What the Next 18 Months Can Look Like, if Leaders Buy Us Time by Tomas Pueyo.

This lengthy article by Tomas Pueyo shares details on the growth and spread scenarios that contagious disease experts worldwide are studying intently.  It demonstrates how the spread of the virus could go very badly for all of us.

But the pandemic could also go much easier if governments and people take it seriously.

This means altering behavior ASAP and separating people from physical exposure to one another right away.

Summary of the article: Strong coronavirus measures today should only last a few weeks, there shouldn’t be a big peak of infections afterwards, and it can all be done for a reasonable cost to society, saving millions of lives along the way. If we don’t take these measures, tens of millions will be infected, many will die, along with anybody else that requires intensive care, because the healthcare system will have collapsed.

Sorry for the gloom and doom here but it's time to change behavior to help everyone in our community survive this pandemic as best as possible.

If not for yourself, please consider the elderly, immune compromised, or other people around you who are more vulnerable than yourself - and stay home!
