Self-isolation is the key to helping as many people as possible survive the current Coronavirus pandemic.

We've seen some important leadership from local elected officials in the face of potential disaster.  The advice from them is consistently to not underestimate the problem and to isolate yourself and loved ones as much as possible.

Here are some samples of straight talk from mayors trying to protect their towns - and even a video that will make you laugh at the candid approach several Italian mayors have taken in Italy.

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit Italy harder even than China.  Apparently the locals have not clearly gotten the message that they need to reduce social contacts, however.

As covered by Vice here (sourced from Twitter here), many local mayors in Italy have taken to online video to make certain their constituents get the message that NO F2F socializing is now safe:

Some of the juicier quotes from the video include:

“We will send over the police with flamethrowers..."
- A furious Vincenzo De Luca, President of Campania

Even more to the point:

“Mobile Hairdressers??!  WTF is that for?
Do you understand the casket will be closed??!
Who the F**K is supposed to even see you?!
WITH YOUR HAIR ALL DONE IN THE CASKET?

- Antonio Tutolo, Mayor of Lucera

Closer to Home - Advice from Southern California Mayors

After a busier weekend than it wanted, Laguna Beach closed its beaches as too many inland residents visited the coast for a break.  Huntington Beach closed its pier and beach parking lots, too,

The city of Long Beach closed down all playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks and other sports facilities in its parks and on local beaches.  Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia even took to Twitter to scold residents with this message:

“Seriously people, you need to practice social distancing. I am seeing tons of people out there acting like there’s no crisis. You could be carrying the virus, have no symptoms and be responsible for the illness or worse of others.”

And we'll close with this quote from LA:

“Your decision to not physically distance yourself may kill someone.
Don’t take risks, don’t mess around, don’t be selfish.”

- Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles.
